I wrote this book because I was tired of watching good people get played by a system they never agreed to and barely understand. Not because they're not smart enough — they are — but because the system was designed to be opaque.
Every chapter in this book started as a conversation with someone I care about. A friend who didn't know their broker was lending their shares. A family member who thought their savings were sitting safely in a vault. A colleague who had no idea that the money in their bank account didn't fully exist.
I didn't write this to make enemies of institutions. I wrote it so that ordinary people could see the board clearly for the first time — and then make their own choices.
